"You have to take a risk to build something nobody has told you they want, because they don’t know they want it yet" http://t.co/yG4xbEr
If Google didn't do something radical and risky, 5 years from now if they fell from the top, we'd rag on them for having been complacent.
To make newsrooms digital first, can't just tell them they're doing it wrong. Give them tech and workflows that make digital first *easy*
A true digital-first workflow means blogs/web CMS first, print editorial system last. Newsrooms starting with print CMS are #doingitwrong
Most newsrooms start in print CMS, then "send to web" -- NOT digital first. Wordpress first, which flows to print CMS. That's digital first.

Would Apple create an admittedly mediocre product because a few consumers said they want it? No. But news org put such a product on iPads.

A truly brilliant deconstruction by @megangarber of the post-idea "idea" http://t.co/PjeWkVm this post is itself proof the big idea lives

If publishers used the web for what it was for, they would build networks, not destinations. But they leave that to Twitter, Facebook, etc.
Technology and media companies are competing now for exact same consumer dollars (apps) and ad dollars.
There's a difference between charging for a newspaper and charging for news (HINT: it's the PACKAGE). Thinking they're the same = fail.
